For those who complain that it’s basically an improved Lux7, the question is: so what? Does it make this camera worse? Looks for me a valuable option for an everywhere camera.

thank you for the great review! people keep saying Lumix has a same sensor and lens but I wonder whether the color science (or I should just say the color of the jpeg / DNG to jepg) would be the same as well. I know the retouch could do the work but hey at least I am not capable of doing it and I won’t try to do it when I just bring a compact camera with a small sensor to a scene to capture some of the moments.

You totally sold that unit. I was thinking it was just $1500 worth of bling. Loved the shots but was surprised at the video. A good one to take into sensitive environments and document in super high quality.

nice lx100 II with leica case at double price

We need a LX100 III for those (read: most people) who cannot afford this Leica. Moreover, it’s too minor of an update. It should at least have a new 26MP new micro four third sensor.

My favorite compact camera is the Canon PowerShot G9 X Mk II. I bought it many years ago when I needed a camera that would fit in my pocket. I have nothing against Leicas (I have a digital and film M), but I don't see myself wanting the D-LUX.

I have one on order because I am so glad that the menu system on this camera is almost the same the the menu system on my Leica SL3. This one I will just carry around with me for those times that I don’t want to get the SL3 out………..small, compact, and WELL Made

Still on the fence...can you explain the difference between a traditional 4/3 senso and a micro 4/3 sensor? Photos are wonderful and this looks like a winner but I'm not sold just yet.

Just a rebadged Panasonic LX100 ii introduces in 2018. Same sensor, same controls, etc. And at a MUCH lower cost.

Looks great! Wonder how many months/years before Leica can fulfill the customer waiting list.

I don’t consider it a real Leica because it is made in China and not Germany.

Hi There, Thanks for the video. Just letting you know that i have owned the D-Lux Type 109 for five years and then upgraded to the D-Lux 7 again for five years and yes i will upgrade to the D-Lux 8 I use my D-Lux 7 for hiking and city/weekend breaks as well as annual holidays. I own a few cameras (Digital and Film) however the compact camera is the one that i use the most. I use a Think Tank Mirrorless Mover 5 to keep my D-Lux 7 protected and use the optional grip which is expensive but worth it. I am sure that you will love yours too...best wishes and love to you and yours ❤

Overpriced 6 year old Lumix LX100II camera with m43 sensor (that's actually cropped and only 17 MP!) with no IBIS rebadged as Leica (good luck recording handheld 4K video...). The good thing is Leica leaves space possibly for a "baby" Q3 in the future...

I absolutely loved the first gen Lumix LX100. There really isn't anything quite like the LX100 / D-Lux package. The lens and sensor combo are now a bit older, but they are still a great match. Good enough for digital media and most prints. Regarding value... considering it's a Leica, and is almost 2x the cost of an older used LX100 II. But the Leica is new, and with quality of life updates makes this the dream LX100. Even against a top tier option like the Fujifilm X100VI, the Leica will still have advantages in its focal range and will still have a higher resolution of image at full zoom compared to the Fuji's crop of its 40mp sensor. Image quality is going to be less and less of a concern in the coming years thanks to the advent of neural nets / AI post-processing. Your images from this camera will last a lifetime and then some. It's more about finding a tool that you connect with. I'm personally fine lugging an APS-C ILC body around with me along with a diminutive F2 lens or an assortment of lenses up to a heavy telephoto manual lens. I prefer the grip and flexibility of such a setup. However, for others, especially those who might just want a single camera solution, or who have large full-frame or medium format kits, the LX100 could be ideal for travel and as an EDC.

Nice but not for me. I love my Q2 and if I need smaller I have my RX100 V1 and 15 P/Max. Nice video and images and thanks for sharing.

Thank you, a great review, from Leigh, & Ramond, Photography, this Leica D-LUX 8 looks like a fantastic compact camera, my only concerns with these cameras, is the lenses tend to suck in all the dirt & dust, much more frequently then other cameras.

Can I use my Godox m4/3 flashgun with this camera.

Love your videos. But not sure about this one. Vs the previous DLUX? Same sensor. Same lens. Is the scaled down Q bod what does it? Otherwise you would have considered the previous camera (unless the processor is from the Q).

The Leica D-Lux 8 is made by Panasonic. Leica and Panasonic have a long-standing partnership in which they collaborate on the design and manufacturing of certain camera models.

This looks like the camera Ive been waiting for!!! Ive been really wanting a small, light, every day carry camera.

As you said, this seems to be a very versatile if not superlative bit of kit. How was the battery life in your experience? I like that if could service as either a bridge for those wanting to step away from just using a smart phone, or for someone who might already be in the Leica ecosystem looking for a simpler everyday carry option. Formerly I used a Sony RX100 V but haven't had that for nearly five years, but looking to find a something similar again - maybe Sony has na new RX1R coming out?!

It looks like the D-lux 8 is a D-lux 7 with a better control layout. I've had a D-lux 7 since it came out and it is one of my two everyday carry cameras. The camera I use the most, however for an EDC is the now discontinued C-Lux. It is even more compact than the D-Lux 7 and can fit in almost any jacket or coat pocket. Where I live, the extra reach of the C-Lux (25-360 equiv.) is so important, especially when taking the ferries to the islands. 75mm equiv. is great for portraits of people, but not when taking photos of birds, orcas, porpoises or lighthouses in the distance, though I guess technically the lens of the D-lux 7 & 8 is better. The colors of the D-lux 7 are a bit better than the C-Lux. But the only alternative to the C-lux is a (relative) "monster" SL2 or SL3 with a "huge" 400, or longer lens. A word of caution: the auto lens cap for the D-Lux 7 & 8 allows dust to get on the front lens element. I use a filter and regular lens cap attached to the strap loop on the camera. I also recommend the leather flash case that attaches to the strap, to always have the flash nearby. (I usually only use the fash for a fill light in daylight.)

Not really sure why you would get this when the Ricoh GRIII and Fuji X100 series exist, other than the big red dot on the front. Both of those have larger sensors and the Ricoh at least has a smaller body.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice looking compact camera. Who doesn’t dream of the Leica red dot on their cameras? But not for the price tag it has for what if offers

I've always liked having a compact camera for the times that I don't want to carry larger equipment and multiple lenses. The D-Lux 8 looks like an intriguing camera for anyone that want to have a Leica without the cost of the higher end models. It would be the only Leica that I would consider getting. But for now, I'll stick with Canon G series cameras. I am currently using a G5X Mark II.
